Long TIme Past

Have not updated this for a long time. Need to get back into the habit. I'll try not to vent about stupid, petty, trivial things, but rather focus on commentary and new. No guarantees, but that is the plan.

Post election post

Yea, the election is over. Whatever one thinks of the results, the most disturbing part of all this is that these folks who were candidates, spent the last months like name calling six-year-olds on a playground are now the very same folks who are running the government. One would have hoped for a higher level of responsibility and maturity. Instead, their judgment must be questioned not only for their conduct during the campaign, but also for what acts or actions they take hereafter. Will their decisions in the running of government show the same lack of maturity and responsible judgment?  Scary.

Snow showers predicted for tonight. Ugh - too early.

Stupid criminal - Guy goes in to commit a robbery with a bag over his head - A PLASTIC BAG!. So of course he can't breathe, rips the bag off his head, and is caught on camera. Gotta love stupid criminals.

So, today is election day. Choices of candidates for the various positions are mostly dismal. Change has been slow, and even though the factors in today's world (and political party most recently responsible for at least our economic woes) are quickly forgotten, the voters (too few in number) will cast their ballots based more on an emotional response rather than a broad view of history.
This is unfortunate. It is easy to say that "history repeats itself" or that history is a hindsight that is "20/20". But the reality, from my perspective, is that first, certain elements, patterns, and reactions, do, in fact, repeat or at least occur in similar ways, and second, history itself changes depending on who and when it is viewed.  An article in the New York Times of today is about the sesquicentennial of the U.S. Civil War. In the article it is noted that for each of the 50 year "anniversaries" the events (not just the battles) have been viewed, commented on, and responded to in ways that are related to both the "historian" and the current events of that era. This is just one example.
So I say again that it is unfortunate that those few who exercise their right to vote today do not take a broader, more reflective view, that issues, their origins and proposed solutions, are not critically examined, and the candidates are often evaluated (if at all) on the basis of the adult version of playground name calling. If people seriously want to improve their own life and improve, preserve, and protect the freedoms that we do have, it would be most responsible to educate themselves, consider the past, and by all means vote.

A Blogging we will go

So this is a first run at random law, political science, history, music, and related random trivia, that have run through my head. Some may be of interest to some, and maybe none will be of interest to none.

Apparently, it is illegal  in Maine to step out of a plane in flight. And in Nebraska it is illegal to go whale fishing.

Have terrorists achieved some part of their goal merely by causing a reaction to their activities?

Is trick-or-treat robbery?
